What skip sizes do you offer?

Question 2

How long can I keep the skip?

Our standard hire period is 7 days. If you need the skip for longer, just let us know and we can arrange an extended hire. Additional charges may apply for extended periods.

Question 3

Do I need a permit to place a skip on the road?

Accepted Answer

Yes — if the skip is to be placed on a public highway (road, pavement, or verge), you will need a skip permit from the local council. We can arrange this on your behalf. If the skip is placed entirely on private land (your driveway, for example), no permit is required.

Question 4

What can I put in a skip?

Accepted Answer

You can put most general household and construction waste in a skip — furniture, garden waste, rubble, timber, and general rubbish. However, certain items are prohibited: hazardous waste, asbestos, tyres, electrical items, paint, solvents, batteries, and medical waste. If you're unsure, please ask us before loading.

How do I book a skip?

Can I get same-day or next-day skip delivery?

In many cases, yes. We aim to deliver skips as quickly as possible across Halifax and West Yorkshire. Call us on 01422 339900 to check availability — same-day delivery is subject to driver schedules and permit requirements if the skip is going on a public road.

Question 8

Where can the skip be placed?

Accepted Answer

Skips can be placed on your driveway, in a car park, or on a public road. Private land placements require no permit. Road placements require a council permit, which we can arrange on your behalf. Please ensure there is adequate access for our vehicle — typically a clear run of around 6 metres.

What happens if I overfill the skip?

Skips must not be loaded above the top rim — this is a legal requirement for safe transportation on public roads. If a skip is overfilled when we arrive to collect it, we will ask you to remove the excess waste before we can take it. Overloaded skips may also incur an additional charge. If you think you'll need more space, it's always better to go up a size.

Can I exchange my skip for a larger one mid-hire?

Yes. If you find you need more capacity during your hire, we can arrange a skip exchange — we collect the current skip and deliver a larger one. Use our Skip Request form and select 'Exchange', or call us on 01422 339900 to arrange it.

What trade bin sizes are available?

We supply 240-litre, 660-litre, and 1,100-litre wheeled bins.

Yes. As a licensed waste carrier, we provide duty of care waste transfer notes for all commercial collections. These are a legal requirement and confirm that your waste has been disposed of responsibly and in compliance with environmental regulations.

Using an unlicensed waste carrier can result in significant fines. How do I get a copy of an invoice?

You can request a copy invoice through our Customer Centre — just fill in the Request Invoice Copy form with your account details and approximate invoice date. We'll email a copy to you as quickly as possible.

Will I be charged if the skip is heavier than expected?

Skips are priced based on standard weight allowances for each size. If the skip significantly exceeds the expected weight — for example, if it contains heavy materials like soil, concrete, or rubble — an overweight charge may apply. We'll always make you aware of this before collection if it's a concern. If you're disposing of heavy materials, let us know when booking so we can advise on the most cost-effective option.

Are you a licensed waste carrier?

What happens to the waste after collection?

Waste is taken to our licensed transfer station where it is sorted and, wherever possible, recycled or recovered. We are committed to diverting as much waste as possible from landfill in line with UK environmental legislation.

Do you provide documentation for compliance purposes?

We are committed to maximising recycling and recovery across all waste streams we handle. Waste is taken to our licensed transfer station where it is sorted and segregated. The majority of general waste we collect is diverted from landfill through recycling, composting, or energy recovery in line with UK waste hierarchy targets.

If your bin hasn't been collected on your scheduled day, or if you've experienced any issue with our service, please use the Report a Problem form in our Customer Centre. We take service issues seriously and aim to respond and resolve within one working day.

Are you registered with the Environment Agency?

Yes. AVA Waste Management Group Ltd is a registered waste carrier with the Environment Agency (Licence No: CBDU134892). You can verify our registration on the Environment Agency's public register. We are fully insured and operate in compliance with all applicable environmental legislation.
